| What exactly means "Getting Linux"
You don't just need Linux. You need a Linux distribution.
Basically, Linux is only a kernel, and even the best kernel is not, for the normal user, something very interesting by itself. Let's see it like a car engine. It's certainly very important that this engine be fast and reliable. But getting it is not a very useful thing to do, unless you get the car too.
So you don't just need the kernel, but a full-featured Operating System, wich comes with several system utilities and, perhaps the most important thing, an installation program.
Now days, not only all "Linux distribution" contains all this, but they also contains several hundred of applications, which range from the old good pacman game to the most sophisticated word processor. |

| So, you want to "download Linux"?
Not always the less expensive way, but certainly the most difficult.
If you have never experimented Linux, just forget it. Even if downloading 600 MB is not a problem for you, even if you have an unexpensive internet connection, this still the most difficult way to get Linux, and so the worst thing to do for a new user. Anyway, if you absolutely want to do it, you can find download instructions on the web pages listed above.
